Understanding the College Application Process
The following documents supporting students' college applications will be submitted to all colleges by the SMHS Counseling Department:
In order for the SMHS Counseling Department to submit required documents supporting your applications to colleges, you MUST add the colleges you have applied to to your Naviance Student account, as well as request your transcript by either picking up a transcript request form from your school counselor or by downloading it here.
To ensure that your documents are processed in a timely manner, please follow the guide below to add colleges and request your transcript:
You MUST do the following when adding colleges you have applied to or plan on applying to:

- Student Transcript.
- Counselor Letter of Recommendation.
- Teacher Letter(s) of Recommendation.
- School Report.
- High School Profile.

To ensure that your documents are processed in a timely manner, please follow the guide below to add colleges and request your transcript:
- Click the "Colleges" tab.
- Click "Colleges I’m Applying To".
- Complete the FERPA waiver, which is REQUIRED.
- Students applying to Common Application colleges must enter their Common Application username and password information at the bottom of the FERPA waiver.
- Click Submit.
- After completing the FERPA waiver, add ALL the colleges to which you are applying.
You MUST do the following when adding colleges you have applied to or plan on applying to:
- Click "Colleges I'm Applying To".
- Click "Add To This List".
- Select "Type of Application".*
- Check "Request Transcript".
- Click "Look-up & Add Colleges".
- Check "I Have Submitted My Application".
- Click "Add Colleges" at the bottom of the page.
- Submit a "Transcript Request Form" to your counselor for each college you are applying to. For more information, please refer to the "Naviance for Seniors" file under the Naviance section of this website.

- EdX has partnered with Arizona State University to create Global Freshman Academy, a first of its kind collaboration that offers full college freshman level courses for credit. The partnership was established to provide quality higher education opportunities to anyone, anywhere in the world.
Why Global Freshmen Academy?
- Accessible to everyone, everywhere. Take courses on your schedule and receive credit without an application, GPA, or transcript.
- Earn college credit at a fraction of the cost. Only pay when you know you have passed the course to reduce financial risk.
- Personalized: A new, more flexible way to earn credit towards your college degree, allowing you to personalize your college experience to suit your needs.
How Does It Work?
The Global Freshman Academy is designed to allow learners to earn college credit without barriers or restrictions. Follow the steps below to learn more:
- Register by clicking here. If you are already registered, just login
- Go to the website to find the available credit bearing courses - or just scroll down!
- Click on the course you are interested in and click "Enroll". Make sure you enroll in the Verified Track for $49 to ensure you are eligible for credit once the course is over.
- Enjoy the course. Meet others. Learn something new!
- Once the course is over and you have received a passing score, click "Get Credit" on your dashboard under the course.
